Starting point

I forked Skill Issue Pack as the foundation. It did not include compilation instructions, so I worked out how to build it before making changes.

My changes focus on countersteer-based mini-turbo charging, immediate drift entry, mini-turbo cancellation, and spark feedback. The underlying game and forked mod are the starting point.

Countersteer drifting

The mod detects when the analog stick moves against the drift direction and returns to neutral. Two countersteers charge a mini turbo.

Pressing the drift button starts drifting immediately, without a hop. Starting another drift cancels an existing mini turbo, matching the behavior I wanted to reproduce.

Spark feedback

Orange mini-turbo sparks show that the first countersteer has registered. To add this feedback, I learned how Mario Kart Wii’s particle system works.

The visual change communicates progress toward the second countersteer directly during the drift.
