Primary
A team capstone FPS built in Unreal Engine. My work covered color interactions, grappling, and a transforming boss arena.
Primary gameplay footage.
My contribution
Players mix paint colors to attack enemies and interact with the world. I built the reusable color interaction system, grappling mechanics, and the changing arena for the final battle.
These are my contributions within the team project; the footage shows the game as a whole.
Color interactions
New objects needed to respond to mixed colors without requiring changes to the player character every time an object was added.
I made a system that lets color be applied to any object. Combining the required colors enables interaction with that object. This kept support for new colorful objects out of the player character’s implementation.
Grappling
The grapple uses a colored cable between the player and a moving endpoint. The endpoint travels to the grapple point, then the player follows.
After the grapple, I add a relative force to the player so that the movement continues rather than losing speed at the end of the action.
Transforming arena
For the final battle, I built an arena that cycles between layouts by raising and lowering tiles. Each layout has its own grappling points, allowing the player to reach the higher parts of the arena.
